The Design
A space where people can think and talk about death, dying and how they process grief.

Open and honest conversations about death and dying can be difficult, but we hope that the garden will help people to connect and to have those conversations earlier rather than later.

Grief affects everyone in different ways and many of us struggle with how to deal with our own grief or to help others overcome their loss.  The Memoria & GreenAcres Transcendence Garden provides a place for reflection and an uplifting space where people want to spend time.

Design Features

Trees
The garden features tall multi stemmed Gleditsia tricathos which have been chosen for their elegant, characterful branching structure and light canopy, delivering dappled shade below. The height of the tree canopy is designed to emphasise upward movement and to lead the visitor to the focal point of the aperture in the pavilion structure, where they are immersed in a minimalist contemplative space.
Planting
The planting scheme below the canopy of trees aims to create a transitory quality.  The elegant planting is muted in colour, with bright flecks dotted throughout to reflect the bright points in life.  Plants have been chosen for the vertical interest in their stems with flower transparency to capture light, movement and density.

As with the limestone, some rougher textured plants are also included to reflect life’s difficulties.
Pavilion
The cantilevered pavilion brings show-stopping drama to the garden. Designed to be minimalist and pure, a skylight opens a view to the sky and cloudscape above, drawing the eye upwards and delivering a dynamic light pattern and contrast between light and shadow to the garden below.
Stone
Limestone is used throughout the garden, some of it rough and textured reflecting that life isn’t simple and straightforward.  The central pathway provides a clear focus within the garden, but there are also alternative, less obvious ways of moving through it, just as the pathway through life isn’t always so clearly set out.

Design Inspiration

Open and honest conversations about death and dying can be difficult, but we hope that the garden will help people to connect and to have those conversations earlier rather than later.

Grief affects everyone in different ways and many of us struggle with how to deal with our own grief or to help others overcome their loss.  The Memoria GreenAcres Transcendence Garden provides a place for reflection and an uplifting space where people want to spend time.  Grief can be a lonely experience, but we hope that the garden can encourage people to remember their loved ones, talk about their grief, and share their loss.
By thinking and talking about dying, people can be better prepared for the end of life and ensure that their wishes are understood and met.  Simple things like talking about whether you’d prefer burial or cremation, and where you might like to be buried or have ashes scattered or interred, can help to ease the emotional burden of  planning a funeral for loved ones.

Taking proactive steps such as having a will in place or purchasing a funeral plan can help to ease the financial burden.
